MOLD IN A WASHING MACHINE

How to Remove Mold in a Washing Machine

By: Jim Warden, Sr. Mold Remediation Specialist

High efficiency washing machines such as LG, GE, and Whirlpool washers are top concern for buyers over the last 3-4 years who have mold and mildew smells coming from the washer. There has been considerable litigation in this matter against these washing machine manufacturers.

The process to remove mold from a washing machine is somewhat straight forward.

Simply place 1-2 disposable packets of Oxy-Mold™ mol d c leaner into the washing machine, and wash as normal. Mix additional product and go over the outside seals with Oxy-Mold™.  The mold will be cleaned and removed from the washer using the oxygen-enzyme technology.

Some washers may require that the outside washer drum be treated with product. This can be accomplished by opening up the washer (depending on the model) and using Oxy-Mold™ in a spray bottle and lightly spraying the outside drum of the washing machine. Keep in mind that the drum may have to be moved to completely reach the entire drum. This will remove the mold from the drum.

This procedure may have to be done on a maintenance basis to keep the mold in check.

Mold can also build up on the seal around the washer’s door.  Oxy Mold can be used to scrub the seal down on a monthly basis to remove this growth.  Regular maintenance in imperative or the seal may have to be replaced.
