Protex™ 63 Mold Preventative

Consumer Ready To Use (RTU) Formula
Exterior Protective Coating

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Protex™ 63 is a durable, sealant and coating that resists mold, mildew and algal growth. Protex™ dries clear and does not affect the appearance of most surfaces. Protex™ is especially formulated for exterior use. Outdoor surfaces are often covered with airborne particles from industrial production, vehicle emissions, soil, fertilizer, pollen and other particulates. The accumulated film serves as a

favorable habitat for microorganisms including fungi and algae.

Heavy growth of mold, mildew and algae often requires harsh removal procedures which can damage the surfaces of the structure. The use of Protex™ 63 protective coating combined with regular light washings can eliminate such harsh cleaning, extend the life of exterior surfaces and preserve the aesthetic value in much the same way as a good furniture polish preserves the appearance and value of fine antiques.

PERFORMANCE BENEFITS

Protex™ 63 is a proprietary exterior protective sealer and surface coating using the latest acrylic polymer technology. The coating incorporates an antimicrobial product registered with EPA for use in and protection of sealants and coatings. The product is designed to resist mold, mildew and algal growth in and on the coating for its protection to damage the coating. The broad range antimicrobial provides two way protective action: One prevents the coating from serving as the habitat in which micro-organisms can grow and proliferate; Two, when the surface becomes wet through rain, dew or irrigation, the controlled diffusion of the active ingredients prevents the growth of micro-organisms on the surface of the protective coating to harm it.

USES

Protex™ 63 is specifically formulated to provide protection for composite decking and accessories. It may also be applied to treated woods, natural woods, natural stone, clay products, concrete, fiber concrete composites, pool decking , painted (water based not oil), penetrating acrylic stains (water based not solvent) and lawn furniture. Protex 63 may be used to protect roofs, siding, walkways, driveways and fences. Protex™ 63 is not for interior use.

PROPERTIES, CARE & STORAGE

Protex™ 63 is a ready-to-use product and requires no dilution. Store in cool dry place at less than 100 ° F. DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER CHEMICALS OR PRODUCTS.

PREPARATION

The surface to be treated must be clean and free of debris, dirt, oil or grease and fungal or algae growth. Contact a specialist in mold removal if mold growth is severe or widespread (more than ten square feet). After mold removal and cleaning, the surface must be rinsed with fresh water to ensure that any residual chlorine and soaps have been removed. Protect or pre-wet plants and vegetation adjacent to area to be treated. Rinse off when treatment is completed. Turn off irrigation system.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Apply when air and surface temperatures are, and will remain above 40 °F until the treated surface is dry, 3 to 4 hours, and no rain is expected for at least twelve hours.

APPLICATION

Read and comply with all SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT recommendations. Shake well before using. Protex™ 63 may be applied over damp surface. Protex™ 63 may be applied by brush, roller or low pressure sprayer. Hand pump up garden sprayers work well. Thoroughly wet the surface with a single uniform coating at a rate of 400 sq. ft. /gal. to 1,200 sq. ft./gal. Coverage is affected by porosity of the treated surface.

DRYING TIME

Dry to touch in 30 to 45 minutes; fully dry in 3 to 4 hours. Full cure is achieved in 24 hours.

CLEAN UP

Clean hands, sprayer, brushes, rollers, spills and splatter with warm soapy water. Rinse with water.

DECKS

Protex™ 63 may be applied to composite and wood decks as a protective sealant/coating. Protex™ 63 may be applied over treated lumber, water based paints and stains. Protex™ 63 should be used as a significant component of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. Such a program begins with proper construction practices including drainage, ventilation of the space under the deck, spacing between deck boards and the proper placement of shrubs bordering the deck. Follow the material manufacturer’s recommendations. Secondly, keep the treated deck free of dirt, pollen and other airborne particulates by regular washing with a garden hose.

PATIOS & POOL DECKS

Protex™ 63 is effective on most patio materials including concrete, natural stone, grout, concrete unit pavers and dense clay products. Very porous clay brick require careful application so as to allow deep penetration of Protex™ 63. An initial application of Protex™ 63 diluted with an equal volume of water and applied to thoroughly dry brick, followed a few minutes later by a application of the full strength product can provide better protection. Keep the treated patio clean and free from standing water.

ROOFS

Protex™ 63 provides an effective protective coating on most roofing materials including asphalt, fiberglass, clay, concrete, fiber-cement and wood shakes. Protex™ 63 is generally less effective on metal roofing and aluminum gutters and downspouts because of the lower porosity of those surfaces. A professional should remove all mold and stain from the roof prior to treatment with Protex™. A good maintenance plan would include keeping the roof free from leaves and an annual washing with detergent and water to remove air borne particulates.

SIDING (Exterior Wall Cladding) Protex™ 63 is effective on fiber-cement, composites, clay brick, aluminum, vinyl and water based paints and stains. Protex™ 63 should be applied to aluminum and vinyl siding in light successive coats so as to build a thicker protective coating of these less porous surfaces. The surfaces should be “back rolled” with a paint roller to eliminate runs and/or streaking. A maintenance program should include rinsing the exterior walls occasionally with a garden hose.

DRIVEWAYS & WALKWAYS

Protex™ 63 is an effective moisture and mold resistant protective coating/sealant for concrete, clay brick and concrete unit paver driveways and sidewalks.

FENCING & LAWN FURNITURE

Protex™ 63 provides an effective protective coating against mold, mildew and algae on vinyl, painted or stained wood except oil based paints or stains.
