MOLD ON PAINTINGS

Mold Remediation on Paintings

By: John Milner, Sr. Mold Remediation Specialist

KILL         - the mold;

REMOVE - the dead mold; and

PROTECT- the painting against future mold infection.

Mold on oil and acrylic paintings are very common in either humid areas or areas with hurricane or water damage. Allowed to go ignore d c an cause up to a total loss of the painting.

We have had a lot of restoration and individuals who have used Oxy Mold MX-501™ to clean and prevent mold with the MX-501 product.

USE THIS PRODUCT AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE CAN NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE TO ANY PAINTING BEING TREATED OR GUARANTEE RESULTS. WE HAVE HAD CUSTOMERS SUCCESSFULLY USE OUR PRODUCTS TO REMOVE MOLD ON PAINTINGS.

 Suggestions:

1.) The painting should be either oil or acrylic. The painting must be very dry before treatment.  If the painting is water color, this treatment should NOT be used on it.

2.) Mix Oxy Mold MX-501™ at 2-4oz per gallon of distilled water.  DO A TEST FIRST!  Add the mixed solution to a spray bottle. Then lightly apply the product to a test area for 5 minutes. Lightly wipe the test area with either a sponge or rag dipped in the solution. Allow this to air dry. You may have to treat it again for a second time. If there is no discoloration (after waiting a few hours of drying) then proceed to a full treatment.

3.) Some mold has very strong pigments an d c an permanently discolor either the canvas or the painting itself.

4.) Once the painting has dried with the fungicide on it, then it will provide some future mold prevention protection.
